Want to know how to be successful in the gym?

There are 50 days left in 2024 and you are probably looking back at the goals you set in January and you might be thinking…Where did I go wrong???

You might be looking at your friend who started the same fitness routine you started back in January and wondering why it worked for her and not you???

Let’s take a minute to reflect….

We started out strong in January, going to the gym 4-5 times a week. February hit and still averaging 4 times a week. The little one got sick in March, so you only made it in twice that week, rightfully so. That is okay because you will pick it back up next week. Then next week hits and you start to average 3ish times a week. Which is still good. The further you get into the year the more sporadic your workouts have become. Then summer hits and traveling starts and you are working out less and less.

As we know how this story starts to play out. You start to make more excuses why you couldn’t get a workout in. You start to feel so unmotivated because you are so far from your goal. The list could go on. I personally know because this is me. This has been my year. We are opening a gym and you would think I should be in the best shape of my life. This year has been one big roller coaster ride and my own fitness journey has paid the price. That is truly okay. Life knocks you down sometimes and throws you curveballs. You are never to far behind where you can’t start again and it is never to late!

I am here to share how to truly be successful, so we don’t have to keep starting over.

Are you ready for it???

The big key to being successful on your fitness journey is being CONSISTENT! Life is hard. Kids do get sick. Work can be stressful. Money can be tight. We do like to take vacations in the summer. What I have learned personally is you have to show up for yourself every day, so you can survive whatever life throws at you.

A few tips to help with being consistent:

  1. Remember things don’t have to be perfect, they just need to be consistent. Maybe you missed your group class that day because your kid is sick. That is OKAY! You have not fallen off the wagon. Google an at home workout you can do for 10-15 minutes while they nap or are laying on the couch. Take them on a walk. Consistently walking does wonders and can be done anywhere. It might not be the perfect situation. but you are being consistent at moving your body.
  2. Have an accountability buddy! Weather it is a coach at the gym, your spouse or bestie… let them know your goals. Let them know you struggle sometimes showing up for yourself and you need a little extra push. If you are at Immortal Athletics we will be there every step of the way to help you achieve your goals no matter how big or small.
  3. Set S.M.A.R.T goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable,Realistic , Time-Bound – breaking down your goals truly does help and less overwhelming. If this is something you struggle with, please reach out and we will get on a call to talk through it. With all our members this is something we will do on the regular.
  4. Make it enjoyable! If you don’t love what you are doing, you are not going to stick to it! I’ve tried a few different types of gyms. Some I liked more than others. They all have great methods, strong communities and really help their members achieve their goals. It just wasn’t what excited me. I personally love lifting with my barbell and I love being on the rig doing pull-ups, toes-to-bars, etc. Learning a new skill or hitting a new weight is what I enjoy. It challenges me and keeps me coming back. You have to find what you enjoy. If you don’t really know what you enjoy or the style of workouts you like, I recommend trying out a few different gyms. Trust me you will know when you find it. If you need some recommendations we got you! We are fortunate to have some really great relationships with all different types of gyms and would love to recommend them.

Ultimately, mastering consistency is about making small, sustainable changes that align with your lifestyle and goals. It’s not about perfection but creating habits that fit into your life in a way that makes them easy to maintain over the long term. Consistency compounds over time, and every effort you put in, no matter how small, builds towards progress.

This is where I am at with my fitness journey, just being consistent with making time for myself, showing up daily to move my body and having some fun with it again! Let’s master this together and don’t wait for January. Let’s start NOW!!!
